Job Description
SuperPlane is seeking a talented and versatile Product Engineer to join their remote team. This position offers the exciting opportunity to take full ownership of projects, driving them from conception through to delivery. If you thrive in an environment where you can contribute across the entire software development lifecycle and are passionate about building innovative solutions, this role might be the perfect fit for you. The company operates across a broad time zone range, accommodating candidates within GMT+2 to GMT-3, fostering a global and flexible working culture.
About the Role
At SuperPlane, the engineering team embraces a holistically integrated approach. Unlike traditional structures that often separate front-end and back-end responsibilities, here, every engineer is empowered to be a full-stack builder. This means you'll be comfortable and capable of working across all layers of the technology stack, from database interactions and API development to crafting engaging user interfaces. You'll be instrumental in making key product and technical decisions, actively seeking assistance when necessary, and ensuring features are brought to life from beginning to end. The work is dynamic, with the potential to shift focus from intricate backend logic on one day to refining the user experience of a critical React component the next. This role is designed for an individual who enjoys variety and is driven by the satisfaction of seeing a project through its complete lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
As a Product Engineer at SuperPlane, your responsibilities will be varied and impactful:
- Develop and enhance APIs, ensuring robust and efficient data exchange.
- Implement improvements to the workflow engine, optimising internal processes and automation.
- Craft and refine user-facing components using React, focusing on intuitive design and seamless user interaction.
- Take full ownership of assigned projects, from initial planning and architecture to final deployment.
- Collaborate closely with the wider team to influence product direction and make critical technical decisions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of SuperPlane's software factory engine, which enables AI agents to build, test, and ship code.
What They're Looking For
SuperPlane is searching for an individual with a strong foundation in full-stack development. Key qualifications and attributes include:
- Demonstrated experience in back-end development, with a preference for systems-oriented languages, particularly Go.
- Proficiency in modern front-end technologies, specifically TypeScript and React.
- A solid understanding of cloud-native tooling and best practices for modern software delivery.
- A proactive attitude and a genuine desire for ownership, especially within the context of an early-stage company.
- The ability to work autonomously and drive projects forward with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, vital for contributing to team-based decision-making.
This role presents an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer to make a significant impact at an innovative company. As an open-source software factory engine, SuperPlane is at the forefront of enabling AI-driven code development. Candidates who are passionate about technology, enjoy problem-solving, and are eager to contribute to a forward-thinking organisation will find this position particularly rewarding. In South Africa, experienced Product Engineers with full-stack capabilities, particularly those proficient in Go and React, can expect competitive remuneration packages. The demand for such skills is high across various sectors, including tech startups, established software houses, and companies undergoing digital transformation. Career progression often leads to senior engineering roles, technical leadership positions, or specialised architectural development.
Requirements
- Strong full-stack development experience.
- Backend experience in a systems-oriented language, preferably Go.
- Proficiency in TypeScript and React.
- Comfort with cloud-native tooling and modern software delivery.
- A desire for ownership in an early-stage company.
