About the Learnership

This learnership serves as a foundational entry point into the data science domain. Participants will embark on a structured 24-month developmental pathway, combining focused learning modules with hands-on workplace experience. Upon successful completion, learners will be awarded the Occupational Certificate: Data Science Practitioner qualification. The learnership commences on 1 October 2026 and offers a monthly stipend of R15,000, along with student medical aid. The positions are based at Liberty's offices in Johannesburg.

Key Responsibilities

As a Data Science Learner at Liberty, you will play a crucial role in supporting senior team members with data-related tasks that contribute to broader organisational objectives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the definition of small, focused data analysis tasks that align with specific project goals.
  • Executing predefined analytical procedures to examine particular aspects of datasets, such as identifying anomalies and validating controls.
  • Contributing to the identification and reporting of key findings, which may include control gaps, operational inefficiencies, and opportunities for enhanced performance or cost savings.
  • Developing and articulating simple, data-driven recommendations that are supported by evidence.
  • Maintaining organised datasets, code, and visual outputs in a structured and reproducible manner to substantiate findings.
  • Adhering strictly to all group standards, organisational policies, and data governance requirements.
  • Effectively prioritising your workload and managing your time to ensure deliverables are met by established deadlines.

**Minimum Requirements:**

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be under the age of 30.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Must not be currently registered on any other learnership or internship programme.
  • Must not be enrolled at any other educational institution.
  • Must hold an undergraduate qualification (or be in the final year of study) in one of the following or related fields:

  • Econometrics / Quantitative Analysis
  • Engineering
