This organisation, deeply invested in harnessing the vast opportunities across Africa, is looking for individuals who can contribute to its ongoing success. The role of Administrator 1 is designed for someone who thrives on supporting daily operations and ensuring the smooth functioning of departmental processes. If you possess a keen eye for detail, excellent organisational abilities, and a proactive approach to tasks, this position might be an excellent fit for your career journey.
About the Role
As an Administrator 1 at Old Mutual, you will be instrumental in performing a range of fundamental clerical duties. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of your department by applying established office procedures. This foundational role requires a hands-on approach, where you will handle tasks such as managing incoming and outgoing communications, processing basic financial transactions, meticulously recording information, and maintaining organised filing systems. The position is geared towards supporting the day-to-day operational needs of the business, ensuring that administrative functions are executed seamlessly.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of an Administrator 1 are diverse and crucial for departmental operations:
- **Document Management and Preparation:** You will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining various Microsoft documents, databases, and other departmental systems, adhering to best practices. This includes preparing routine correspondence, memoranda, and reports, often following detailed instructions and utilising the full functionality of standard office software.

Developing a solid understanding of the organisation's policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory codes is essential. Adhering to these mandatory procedures will ensure that your work consistently meets the required quality standards.
- **Workload Management:** Organising your own work schedule efficiently will be key to meeting deadlines and ensuring tasks are completed effectively. This may involve coordinating with support services and, where necessary, allocating short-term tasks to colleagues to optimise workflow.
- **Continuous Development:** A commitment to personal and professional growth is important. You will be expected to participate in assessment and development planning activities, as well as formal and informal training and coaching, to enhance your process or technical skills.
What They're Looking For

- **Qualifications:** A Matric certificate or its equivalent is a mandatory requirement. A Diploma or equivalent NQF Level 6 qualification in general insurance would be considered advantageous. Furthermore, having completed the Regulatory Examination (RE) would also be a significant plus.
- **Experience:** Ideally, candidates will have between one and three years of experience in commercial underwriting. This experience will provide a strong base for understanding the administrative needs within such an environment.
- **Skills and Competencies:** A blend of technical and soft skills is essential. This includes strong computer literacy, proficiency in database administration, and familiarity with desktop publishing (DTP) tools. Good numerical aptitude, oral communication skills, and an understanding of office systems and procedures are also vital. The ability to execute plans effectively, manage reporting, and coordinate resources will be highly valued. In terms of competencies, candidates should demonstrate strong collaboration skills, effective communication, a drive to achieve results, accountability, and the ability to plan and align with organisational goals.
