Job Description

This global software company, a leader in visualisation and design solutions, is seeking a dedicated Team Lead for its Education sector. With a strong presence across multiple industries for over two decades, the organisation empowers creative professionals to manifest their visions. The recent expansion through mergers and acquisitions has broadened its expertise, particularly in areas like architecture, design, e-commerce, and artificial intelligence, cementing its position as an industry innovator. This role offers a remote working arrangement, though applicants must possess the necessary work and residence permits for their location, indicating a global operational footprint.

About the role

The Team Lead Education will be instrumental in steering the growth and success of the education sales division. This position demands a proactive and hands-on approach, focusing on both team development and direct sales contributions. The incumbent will be responsible for nurturing a high-performing sales team, establishing clear objectives, and providing ongoing coaching and mentorship. A significant aspect of the role involves directly engaging in sales processes to support the team in achieving pipeline and revenue targets.

Key Responsibilities

The core responsibilities of the Team Lead Education encompass a range of strategic and operational sales activities. A primary focus will be on cultivating and expanding the team's outbound sales efforts, specifically targeting new institutional clients and student customers. This will involve a discovery-led approach to identify and capitalise on new opportunities. Furthermore, the role includes driving growth and ensuring customer satisfaction within the existing base of students and institutions through effective expansion and retention strategies.

Accurate forecasting of the sales pipeline and reporting on attainment for the Education business are critical. This requires a meticulous approach to tracking progress and communicating performance metrics. Collaboration will be a key element, with the Team Lead expected to work closely with various internal departments, including Revenue Operations, Marketing, Product development, and E-commerce teams. This cross-functional partnership is essential to ensure that education-specific campaigns are effectively prioritised and implemented to maximise impact.

What they're looking for

To excel in this position, candidates will need a solid foundation in sales, ideally within a SaaS or technology-driven environment, with at least five years of relevant experience. A demonstrable history of successfully managing a direct sales territory or segment from inception to completion is essential. The ability to effectively manage and influence customer journeys, particularly those led by digital or e-commerce channels, will be a significant advantage.

While not strictly mandatory, previous experience within the Architecture, Education, or EdTech sectors, or a closely related vertical, would be highly beneficial. This industry-specific knowledge can provide valuable insights and accelerate the candidate's ability to connect with the target market. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, a strategic mindset, and a proven ability to drive sales performance through both team management and personal sales efforts.

In South Africa, roles leading sales teams in technology companies often require a blend of strategic vision and operational execution. Depending on the specific company size and the scope of the team managed, remuneration can vary significantly, but leadership positions in established tech firms typically offer competitive packages. Progression paths often involve moving into broader sales management roles, regional leadership, or even business unit management.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of sales experience within a SaaS or technology environment.
  • Proven track record of owning a direct sales territory or segment end-to-end.
  • Experience managing and influencing a low-touch, digital or ecommerce-led purchase journey is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in Architecture, Education, EdTech, or a related vertical is an advantage, but not required.
