About the Role

This position is designed for an individual who can blend hands-on technical support with strategic thinking. The IT Support Engineer will be instrumental in developing and implementing the business and operational plans, policies, and procedures necessary for the effective management, support, and security of a range of system applications. This includes not only the existing suite of tools but also any newly introduced technologies. The ultimate goal is to guarantee the seamless functioning of IT applications that are vital to warehouse operations, thereby minimising disruption and maximising efficiency.

The day-to-day responsibilities of the IT Support Engineer are varied and demand a proactive, problem-solving approach. Key duties include:

• Providing direct, hands-on support and troubleshooting for warehouse application systems, with a sharp focus on minimising any impact on ongoing operations.
• Identifying, diagnosing, and resolving technical issues related to software applications, escalating complex problems to the appropriate specialised teams when necessary.
• Conducting regular checks and performing essential maintenance tasks to ensure the optimal stability and performance of all warehouse IT applications.
• Developing and delivering training sessions to warehouse staff, empowering them to better understand and effectively utilise the IT applications crucial to their roles.
• Offering continuous technical support and guidance to end-users.
• Actively seeking opportunities to enhance operational processes through the application of technology, contributing to overall increased efficiency within the warehouse environment.
• Maintaining meticulous documentation of systems, including incidents, their resolutions, and established procedures, fostering knowledge sharing and supporting continuous learning within the team.
• Analysing and evaluating the technical performance and reliability of products, systems, and services against recognised industry standards to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Implementing and coordinating technical service restoration and troubleshooting procedures for identifying, testing, and diagnosing faults within computer systems and peripheral equipment.
• Supporting the implementation and coordination of standards, procedures, processes, and daily activities for the operations group.
• Assisting with the support of new technologies, and contributing to data centre performance and reliability initiatives.
• Providing valuable input and recommendations concerning business continuity, as well as improvements to the operations of supported systems and processes.
• Investigating business requirements and proposing suitable technological solutions.
• Ensuring the optimal availability of related systems, such as content production applications, to meet contracted service level agreements for second and third-level support.

What They're Looking For

Candidates aspiring to this role should possess a strong foundation in IT support, ideally within a logistics or warehouse setting. Essential qualifications and experience include:

• A National Diploma in Information Technology or equivalent practical experience.
• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in IT application support, with a preference for experience within a logistics or warehouse environment.
• A solid understanding of ITIL processes and best practices.

While not strictly mandatory, the following would be considered advantageous:

• Certifications such as A+ and N+.
• Experience with Active Directory.
• Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Infrastructure.
• Experience with Google Cloud.

Beyond technical proficiencies, the ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, alongside strong interpersonal abilities. They should be adept at problem-solving, possess sharp analytical thinking, and be able to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a results-oriented and creative mindset.
