Job Description
Absa is seeking a dedicated Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) Specialist to join its Asset and Liability (AR) Treasury team. This role is crucial for ensuring the accurate pricing of the bank's assets and liabilities across the AR region, adhering strictly to the established FTP framework. The incumbent will play a vital part in providing critical support and insightful analysis that underpins the bank's financial health and strategic decision-making.
About the Role
The core purpose of this position is to contribute to the AR Treasury function at both the central and regional levels. This involves delving into the intricacies of funds transfer pricing, which dictates how the bank prices its internal funding of assets and its cost of funding liabilities. The specialist will be responsible for performing detailed calculations, developing sophisticated financial models, and conducting in-depth analysis. This work directly influences the profitability and risk management of the bank's various business units by ensuring transparency and a clear understanding of how FTP impacts the overall profit and loss (P&L).
Key Responsibilities
The Funds Transfer Pricing Specialist will be instrumental in several key areas:
- **Management Information and Reporting:** Implement and refine management information systems to generate essential reports. These reports will enhance the understanding and visibility of FTP's impact on business P&L, requiring close collaboration with Treasury, Finance, and Technology departments.
- **Performance Monitoring and Analysis:** Produce monthly management information crucial for tracking and explaining FTP results. This involves engaging with the ARO Treasurer and Country FTP leads to ensure a comprehensive grasp of FTP's influence on business performance, including variances against budgets and financial plans.
- **Behavioural Modelling Support:** Aid in the modelling of behavioural aspects of financial products. This includes working with country Treasury teams to suggest improvements to risk methodologies and models used for determining product behavioural profiles, and identifying new methodologies for emerging products.
- **Stakeholder Engagement and Strategy:** Build and maintain robust working relationships with ARO Treasury and business leaders. This involves understanding growth strategies, business challenges, distribution channels, and identifying necessary FTP adjustments within specific countries.
- **Financial Planning and Budgeting:** Provide key FTP inputs for the annual planning and budgeting processes, working in tandem with the Finance team. This also entails scrutinising financial inputs and results to ensure their reasonableness and accuracy.
- **Business Outlook Analysis:** Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of business outlooks and their projected FTP implications. Monitor current and future performance, and advise FTP Heads on potential actions to support business and treasury objectives.
What They're Looking For
To excel in this role, candidates will need a strong foundation in finance and a keen analytical aptitude. The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Management Studies, or a related field.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience, encompassing technical and managerial aspects within Finance.
- Demonstrated experience in Balance Sheet management.
- Proficiency in modelling tools, such as SAS or equivalent.
- A highly numerate profile with a strong analytical background.
- Proven experience in senior management reporting, influencing stakeholders, and managing relationships at all levels.

In terms of competencies, candidates should exhibit:
- Exceptional attention to detail and a diligent approach to process management.
- A keen interest in developing technical skills within risk management and understanding the impact of local market dynamics on FTP.
