Job Description

This role, based in the vibrant coastal town of uMhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal, calls for a dynamic Branch Manager to steer operations for Liberty's IAM (Investment, Asset Management, or a similar division) branch. The core objective is to cultivate a thriving, client-centric environment that consistently delivers sustainable profitability. This involves not only managing the day-to-day operations, encompassing people, processes, and systems, but also actively driving business expansion. A significant part of this expansion will stem from the effective recruitment, development, and retention of a skilled team of Broker Consultants.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring that the branch's strategic direction aligns perfectly with the execution of adviser strategies. This includes a steadfast commitment to adhering to all regulatory requirements, particularly those set forth by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), and upholding the principles of Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) in all business dealings.

About the Role

The Branch Manager will be at the helm of the uMhlanga branch, responsible for its overall performance and strategic direction. This leadership position demands a comprehensive understanding of operational management within the financial services sector, coupled with a proven ability to foster a high-performance culture. You will be expected to lead, motivate, and develop a team of professionals, ensuring they are equipped to meet and exceed client expectations and business objectives. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying and capitalising on growth opportunities while maintaining rigorous standards of compliance and ethical conduct.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for this Branch Manager position include:

  • **Operational Management:** Oversee all aspects of branch operations, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources (personnel, systems, and processes) to achieve profitability targets.
  • **Business Development:** Drive business growth through strategic initiatives, focusing on expanding the client base and increasing market share.
  • **Team Leadership and Development:** Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of Broker Consultants. This includes actively engaging in recruitment, retention, and continuous professional development programmes to build a high-achieving team.
  • **Client Focus:** Champion a client-centric approach throughout the branch, ensuring that all operations and interactions prioritise customer satisfaction and fair treatment.
  • **Regulatory Compliance:** Ensure strict adherence to all relevant financial services regulations, including FSCA requirements and TCF principles, mitigating risks and maintaining the company's reputation.
  • **Financial Management:** Manage the branch's operational budget, monitor financial performance against targets, and implement strategies to enhance financial outcomes.
  • **Strategic Alignment:** Ensure that the branch's objectives and operational execution are fully aligned with Liberty's overarching corporate goals and strategies.

What They're Looking For

To excel in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A relevant first-degree qualification in Business Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or Marketing.
  • A valid FAIS Representative licence.
  • A strong understanding of regulatory compliance, risk management, and client service principles, with a particular emphasis on Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) within the financial services industry.
  • Proven experience in managing operational budgets and achieving financial targets.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience within the insurance, financial services, or asset management sectors.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a management capacity, overseeing teams or significant operational areas.
  • A demonstrated track record in sales and distribution management, with specific experience in recruiting, retaining, and developing financial advisers.
  • The ability to effectively lead and manage diverse teams, including independent contractors.
