Job Description
Old Mutual is seeking a proactive and commercially driven professional to join their Corporate division in Pinelands, Cape Town. In this pivotal position, you will act as the primary liaison between the organisation and its network of intermediary partners. Your mandate is to bridge the gap between Old Mutual’s suite of corporate solutions and the broker market, ensuring that the company maintains its competitive edge through strategic relationship management and sustainable business growth.
About the role
This role is designed for a target-driven individual who thrives on building and maintaining professional networks. As a Broker Consultant, you will be responsible for managing an assigned portfolio of brokers, acting as their dedicated point of contact. Your success will be measured by your ability to increase market penetration, retain existing business, and meet specific sales targets. You will serve as a trusted advisor to these intermediaries, helping them understand Old Mutual’s product offerings so they can better serve their own clients.
The position requires a high degree of commercial awareness. You must be able to analyse market trends, keep a close watch on competitor activities, and translate these insights into actionable business plans. By fostering strong, long-term partnerships with brokers and key decision-makers, you will play a direct role in driving the growth of Old Mutual’s Corporate footprint.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily responsibilities will revolve around three core pillars: business development, portfolio management, and relationship stewardship. Key activities include:
- **Strategic Engagement:** Proactively identify new business opportunities and support brokers in growing their books of business with Old Mutual.
- **Performance Monitoring:** Conduct regular business reviews to track broker performance against objectives and implement growth strategies.
- **Relationship Management:** Act as the voice of the intermediary within the organisation, facilitating communication between brokers and internal departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
- **Sales Execution:** Manage a sales pipeline effectively, ensuring that cross-selling and upselling opportunities within existing portfolios are identified and realised.
- **Operational Excellence:** Maintain high standards of data integrity in reporting, adhere to all regulatory requirements (such as FAIS and TCF), and ensure that every interaction reflects the company's brand values.
What they're looking for
Old Mutual requires a candidate who possesses a solid foundation in the financial services sector, specifically regarding employee benefits and group risk. You should be comfortable navigating complex regulatory environments and possess the ability to influence and negotiate at a professional level.
- **Educational Background:** A minimum of an NQF Level 6 qualification is required. A relevant Bachelor’s degree is preferred, and the CFP® designation is considered a strong advantage.
- **Regulatory Standing:** You must be FAIS compliant; an RE5 qualification is preferred.
- **Experience:** A minimum of 1–3 years of experience in financial services, ideally within intermediary sales, retirement funds, or relationship management.
- **Core Skills:** Proficiency in MS Office Suite and CRM systems is essential, along with strong analytical skills to perform business reporting and identify market trends.
In the South African financial services market, Broker Consultant roles within top-tier organisations like Old Mutual generally offer competitive remuneration packages comprising a base salary, travel allowances, and performance-based incentives. These positions often serve as a gateway to senior management roles in distribution or product strategy. Applicants should be prepared for a fast-paced environment where continuous professional development is encouraged to stay abreast of shifting legislative landscapes in the retirement and benefits sector.
