AWS Cloud Solutions Architect

Cloudary SAS is currently seeking a highly experienced Senior AWS Cloud Solutions Architect to join their global operations. This remote position offers a unique opportunity for a South African cloud specialist to integrate into a distributed team, working alongside colleagues based across Europe, the US, and Hungary. You will function as the technical authority on critical projects, steering clients through the lifecycle of cloud adoption, from initial infrastructure assessment to large-scale migration and modernization.

About the role

In this capacity, you will report to an Engineering Manager based in Europe and take ownership of technical delivery for high-impact projects. The role requires a blend of hands-on architectural design and team leadership. You will manage small, high-performance pods of one to four engineers, ensuring that cloud-native architectures are not only technically sound but also strictly aligned with the client’s long-term business objectives.

Communication is a vital component of this role. You will often serve as the primary technical representative in executive-level briefings, translating complex cloud concepts into clear business outcomes. Furthermore, roughly a quarter of your time will be dedicated to pre-sales activities, where you will collaborate with AWS account teams to design solutions and pursue new opportunities.

What you’ll do

Your daily contributions will focus on maintaining architectural integrity while mentoring junior talent. You will be expected to drive the following activities:

• Lead and execute complex, multi-service migration and modernization projects on the AWS platform.
• Establish architectural guardrails and develop reusable components or frameworks to boost the quality and consistency of the practice.
• Provide technical resolution for high-risk blockers and escalated issues that threaten project timelines.
• Mentor team members through regular knowledge-sharing sessions and professional coaching.
• Contribute to the evolution of the firm’s technical offerings by identifying market trends and developing internal accelerators.
• Maintain deep subject matter expertise in database migration, specifically regarding MSSQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Oracle environments.

What they’re looking for

To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate a deep history of hands-on cloud engineering, backed by formal recognition and extensive migration experience.

• A minimum of 8 years in infrastructure or cloud engineering, with at least 5 of those years dedicated specifically to AWS environments.
• An AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional certification is mandatory.
• Proven experience leading end-to-end cloud migrations for large-scale enterprise clients.
• Strong proficiency in database migration workflows (MSSQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle).
• Exceptional communication skills, capable of bridging the gap between deep-dive technical requirements and high-level stakeholder management.
• A relevant degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field; alternatively, a portfolio of equivalent professional experience.
• Familiarity with AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) phases is considered a strong advantage.
