Job Description

Ozow, a prominent fintech enterprise, is seeking a dynamic Marketing Manager to join their innovative team in Cape Town. This company is at the forefront of revolutionising digital payments across South Africa and beyond, with a core mission to enhance the accessibility, security, and ease of transactions for both consumers and businesses. Ozow thrives on a culture that champions innovation, diversity, and inclusivity, consistently pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the financial technology landscape and striving to make a tangible positive impact through its cutting-edge payment solutions.

About the Role

This position offers a significant opportunity for a marketing professional to play a pivotal role in shaping and executing Ozow's marketing endeavours. The Marketing Manager will function as a key strategic partner to the Head of Marketing, contributing materially to the overall marketing strategy and translating high-level objectives into actionable plans. A significant portion of the role involves owning the content strategy from inception to completion, ensuring a high standard of quality and strategic alignment. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for operationalising the marketing function, streamlining workflows, and ensuring efficient resource allocation. This is a leadership role that requires a proactive approach to managing teams, external partnerships, and complex campaign execution.

Key Responsibilities

The Marketing Manager will be entrusted with a broad range of responsibilities, encompassing both strategic oversight and tactical execution. Key duties include:

  • **Team Leadership and Development:** Effectively manage, coach, and mentor any direct reports, establishing clear performance expectations and fostering professional growth.
  • **Strategic Contribution:** Interpret and contribute significantly to the broader marketing strategy, acting as a trusted strategic advisor to the Head of Marketing.
  • **Content Strategy Ownership:** Take full responsibility for the end-to-end content strategy, leveraging direct reports as integral contributors, and providing a critical layer of review and insight before content escalates. This involves ensuring depth of research, technical comprehension, and insightful commentary.
  • **Operational Excellence:** Drive the operational efficiency of the marketing department by managing brief intake processes, overseeing studio and team workflows, and balancing the volume of incoming briefs with production capacity. This includes running regular stand-up meetings and instilling a culture of accountability.
  • **Stakeholder Management:** Serve as the primary escalation point for delivery risks and resolve competing stakeholder priorities, preventing them from reaching the Head of Marketing. Act as the main liaison for all external partners, including PR, performance marketing, production agencies, and out-of-home media suppliers.
  • **Campaign Management:** Translate strategic objectives into detailed briefs for the Content Strategist, supporting the Head of Marketing and Product Marketing Manager in developing go-to-market strategies for new products. Lead large-scale out-of-home and digital campaigns from conception to completion, ensuring delivery is on brief, on time, and within budget.
  • **Performance Analysis and Optimisation:** Utilise funnel and campaign performance data to rigorously assess and enhance the impact and effectiveness of marketing initiatives.
  • **Process Improvement:** Explore and implement new work management tools to enhance brief intake and delivery tracking, and investigate the application of AI tools to support content review, briefing, and workflow optimisation.

What They're Looking For

Ozow is seeking a candidate with a robust marketing background, preferably with experience within the fintech sector or a closely related industry. A solid understanding of B2B marketing principles is essential. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A relevant marketing qualification (degree or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience in owning and executing a comprehensive content strategy, going beyond simple calendar management.
  • Proven ability to interpret and contribute to overarching marketing strategies, translating them into tangible actions.
  • Experience managing multiple external agencies across different disciplines, ensuring successful project delivery.
  • Exceptional writing skills and a keen editorial judgement.
  • Prior experience in a line management or supervisory role.
  • Previous experience leading large-scale integrated campaigns, including out-of-home advertising.

In the South African context, a Marketing Manager role with these responsibilities typically commands a competitive salary, often ranging from R450,000 to R800,000 per annum, depending on experience and the specific company's remuneration structure. Major fintech companies, established financial institutions, and innovative technology firms are common employers for such positions. Career progression can lead to more senior marketing leadership roles, such as Head of Marketing or Director of Marketing, with opportunities to specialise in areas like digital marketing, brand management, or product marketing.

Requirements

  • You have a relevant marketing qualification (degree or equivalent)
  • You have proven experience owning a content strategy end to end, not just executing content calendars
  • You have experience contributing to, interpreting, and executing against a broader marketing strategy
  • You have experience in fintech or fintech adjacent sectors
  • You have a B2B marketing background
  • You have experience managing external agencies across more than one discipline
  • You have strong writing and editorial judgement
  • You have prior line management experience
  • You have prior experience leading out of home or large scale integrated campaigns
