The successful candidate will play a crucial part in shaping the bank's approach to collections, aligning strategies with business objectives and regulatory mandates.

About the Role

This position is fundamental to the smooth operation and strategic development of Absa's collections function. A deep understanding of the financial services sector, particularly in relation to collections and debt management, is essential. The role demands a proactive individual who can translate complex data into actionable insights and drive improvements within the existing frameworks.

You will contribute to the enhancement of collections strategies through rigorous research and detailed data interrogation. This involves not only understanding current performance but also anticipating future trends and risks. The role requires a strong sense of ownership and the ability to manage multiple processes, from routine operations to ad-hoc analytical tasks, all while adhering to strict service level agreements.

Key Responsibilities

The core responsibilities of this analyst role are multifaceted, focusing on data-driven strategy development and meticulous portfolio management:

  • Continuously embed improvements into collections strategies through thorough research and robust data analysis.
  • **Data Management and Insights:**
  • Manage daily, ad-hoc, and automated processes efficiently and effectively.
  • Produce and analyse management information, ensuring insights are delivered within stipulated turnaround times.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis and processing, which includes sourcing, cleaning, validating, and consolidating large datasets.
  • Utilise advanced SAS skills to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities within the data to inform strategic decision-making.
  • **Risk, Governance, and Compliance:**
  • Perform credit risk assessments and reviews as part of the Business-As-Usual (BAU) processes.
  • Ensure all strategies and actions are aligned with the bank's credit risk policies and comply with relevant legislation.
  • Support internal and external audit processes, maintaining high standards of governance.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes affecting collections and debt sales activities.
  • **Stakeholder Engagement:**
  • Communicate analytical findings and strategic recommendations clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Build and nurture strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners, fostering a collaborative environment.

Absa is seeking a candidate with a strong quantitative background and practical experience in financial services. Key requirements include:

  • **Qualifications and Experience:**
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering is preferred.
  • Two to three years of experience within the financial services industry, ideally with exposure to collections or credit risk, would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in advanced SAS is essential, coupled with demonstrated experience in data analysis and processing techniques.
  • A solid understanding of collections processes, impairment calculations, and broader credit risk management principles.

  • Exceptional analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach, with a drive to deliver tangible results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively manage stakeholder relationships and promote collaboration.
