Job Description

Auxmoney GmbH, a prominent fintech innovator headquartered in Düsseldorf, is seeking a seasoned Senior DevOps Engineer to bolster their team. This is a remote opportunity, offering flexibility to professionals within Germany. The role is pivotal in shaping Auxmoney's cloud infrastructure, tackling intricate technical hurdles, and transforming abstract requirements into robust, scalable solutions. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with a diverse group of engineers and stakeholders, actively contributing to elevating engineering standards through mentorship and knowledge dissemination.

About the Role

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the ongoing development and optimisation of Auxmoney's cloud platform. This involves taking ownership of architectural decisions, systematically addressing technical debt, and striking a pragmatic balance between reliability, scalability, security, and cost-efficiency. You will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining secure, scalable, and easily manageable cloud platforms and associated services. A significant part of the role will focus on enhancing automation, infrastructure, deployment pipelines, observability tools, and overall operational efficiency.

Furthermore, you will engage with complex distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and event streaming technologies. A key aspect of this position is the ability to dissect large, intricate projects into manageable, incremental workstreams, ensuring continuous delivery of value. You will be expected to delve into recurring technical issues, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable, long-term solutions rather than resorting to temporary fixes. A vital component of your responsibilities will also involve empowering the engineering team by sharing your expertise, mentoring less experienced colleagues, and fostering an environment of collaboration, transparency, and shared accountability.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Senior DevOps Engineer are multifaceted and demand a comprehensive understanding of modern cloud infrastructure and software development practices. Core duties include:

  • **Architectural Contribution and Ownership:** Actively participate in defining and refining the architecture of the cloud platform. Proactively identify and address technical debt, making informed decisions on trade-offs related to system reliability, scalability, security, and operational costs.
  • **Platform Development and Operation:** Design, construct, and maintain secure, scalable, and maintainable cloud infrastructure and services. This encompasses ensuring the robustness and resilience of the platform.
  • **Automation and Delivery Enhancement:** Drive improvements in automation across infrastructure provisioning, application deployment, and operational processes. Enhance the observability of systems and boost overall operational efficiency.
  • **Distributed Systems Engagement:** Work with and contribute to systems built on distributed software principles, including event-driven architectures and event streaming platforms.
  • **Incremental Delivery:** Break down complex technical initiatives into smaller, deliverable units, ensuring consistent and iterative delivery of valuable features and improvements.
  • **Root-Cause Problem Solving:** Investigate persistent technical problems, conducting thorough analysis to implement permanent solutions that prevent recurrence.
  • **Team Enablement and Mentorship:** Share technical knowledge and best practices with the wider engineering team. Mentor junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and contributing to a collaborative and supportive team culture. Promote principles of transparency and shared responsibility within the team.

What They're Looking For

Auxmoney is seeking a candidate with a proven track record in DevOps, platform engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering. Essential qualifications and experience include:

  • **Extensive Professional Experience:** Several years of hands-on experience in DevOps, platform engineering, SRE, or a closely related technical field.
  • **AWS Expertise:** Demonstrable, in-depth practical experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the management of cloud-native infrastructure.
  • **Go (Golang) Proficiency:** Professional experience in developing with Go (Golang), ideally applied to automation tools, platform utilities, or backend services.
  • **Distributed Systems Understanding:** A solid grasp of distributed systems principles, asynchronous processing methodologies, and event streaming concepts.
  • **Engineering Excellence:** Proven experience with key DevOps practices, including infrastructure as code, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, comprehensive observability solutions, security best practices, and system reliability engineering.
  • **Technical Leadership Capabilities:** The ability to make sound architectural decisions and clearly articulate technical trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • **Delivery and Initiative Management:** Experience in leading technical projects from inception to completion, with a focus on incremental delivery of complex workstreams.
  • **Collaboration and Mentoring Aptitude:** A genuine enjoyment for teamwork, a passion for sharing knowledge, and a commitment to supporting the development and success of colleagues.
  • **Ownership and Continuous Learning Mindset:** A strong sense of responsibility for project outcomes and a proactive approach to seeking and implementing better, long-term solutions.

Major banks, established fintech companies, and large e-commerce platforms are common employers for such roles. Career progression can lead to Lead DevOps roles, Cloud Architecture positions, or even management within engineering departments.

Requirements

  • AWS expertise: You have strong hands-on experience with AWS and cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Go experience: You have professional experience with Go (Golang), ideally for automation, platform tooling, or backend services.
