Job Description

This internship opportunity at OUTsurance presents a fantastic chance for recent graduates to immerse themselves in the world of human capital and recruitment. The programme is designed to provide hands-on experience across the entire recruitment spectrum, from initially identifying promising talent to welcoming new team members on board. It's an ideal stepping stone for individuals who are passionate about people, eager to contribute to a dynamic work environment, and committed to ensuring every candidate has a positive and professional interaction with the organisation.

This is a structured, work-based learning initiative, offering unemployed graduates valuable practical experience within the company. Successful candidates will be engaged on a 12-month fixed-term internship agreement. During this period, they will receive a stipend to support their learning and development.

The Recruitment Lifecycle in Practice

As a Recruitment Intern, you will play an integral role in supporting the Human Capital department. Your responsibilities will span various crucial stages of the recruitment process. This includes the vital task of advertising vacancies, ensuring that job opportunities reach a wide and relevant audience through postings on both external job boards and internal company platforms.

A significant part of your role will involve actively sourcing potential candidates. This will require you to utilise various online channels, such as professional networking sites like LinkedIn, to identify individuals who possess the skills and experience required for specific roles.

Once a pool of potential applicants is established, you will be involved in the critical process of screening CVs and evaluating applications to create a shortlist of suitable candidates who align with the job requirements. Furthermore, you will conduct initial screening calls to gauge candidates' suitability and their interest in the role, providing a crucial first impression of OUTsurance.

A key aspect of the internship will be coordinating and scheduling interviews, acting as the liaison between candidates and hiring managers to ensure a smooth and efficient process. Maintaining open and consistent communication with candidates throughout their application journey, providing timely updates, will be essential for managing expectations and fostering a positive candidate experience.

You will also be responsible for diligently maintaining and updating recruitment trackers and databases, ensuring that all information is accurate and up-to-date. Preparing essential documentation for interviews and assisting with other recruitment-related administrative tasks will further support the team. Finally, you will contribute to the smooth onboarding of successful new hires, helping them integrate into the OUTsurance family.

What Makes a Successful Candidate

OUTsurance is seeking individuals who demonstrate a strong set of competencies, particularly in their ability to connect with and manage people. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are paramount, enabling clear and effective interaction with candidates, hiring managers, and the wider HR team.

You should possess exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating a genuine passion for working with people and understanding their needs and aspirations. Being computer literate with good administrative capabilities will be crucial for managing systems, databases, and documentation efficiently.

A high degree of organisation, self-discipline, and self-motivation is essential for managing a varied workload and working effectively. The ability to work towards deadlines and maintain a results-oriented mindset will ensure that recruitment processes are completed efficiently and effectively. A keen attention to detail will be vital in reviewing applications and managing candidate information accurately.

Furthermore, candidates should be able to take ownership of their tasks and responsibilities, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach. The capacity to work effectively under pressure and maintain a calm, stress-tolerant demeanour is also highly valued in this fast-paced recruitment environment.

To qualify for this exciting internship, applicants must hold a Matric or equivalent qualification. Crucially, they must have completed a relevant degree or diploma, such as in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Labour Relations, BCom Law, LLB, Generic Management, or Business Management, or a related field. Additionally, to be eligible for this INSETA-supported programme, candidates must be South African citizens, between 18 and 35 years of age, unemployed for the last two months, and must not have previously participated in an INSETA internship or learnership programme.

This internship at OUTsurance offers a pathway to gain invaluable experience in recruitment and human resources. In South Africa, entry-level HR and recruitment roles, particularly internships, often provide a stipend rather than a full salary, typically ranging from R5,000 to R10,000 per month, depending on the organisation and the specific programme. Major insurance companies, financial institutions, and large corporate entities are common employers for such roles, offering structured training and development. Successful interns can often find opportunities for growth into junior recruiter, HR assistant, or specialist roles within the organisation or the broader HR field.
