Job Description
The energy sector is rapidly evolving, and TMEIC Corporation Americas is at the forefront of this transformation, particularly within the solar inverter market. They are seeking a dedicated and strategic Product Manager to steer the development and success of their solar inverter product lines. This role is pivotal in shaping the company's future offerings, ensuring they remain competitive and aligned with market demands.
The Product Manager's Mandate
As a Product Manager at TMEIC, you will be responsible for crafting and implementing the strategic vision for the solar inverter portfolio. This involves developing comprehensive product line strategies that span initial concept generation through to successful market launch, all within the framework of longer-term business plans. Your remit will include the entire product lifecycle, ensuring that TMEIC's offerings continue to meet and exceed industry expectations.
A key aspect of this role is a deep understanding of the market landscape. You'll be tasked with assessing market trends, identifying potential clients and key competitors, and analysing the existing and potential differentiation of TMEIC's products. This research will inform recommendations for competitive enhancements and new product directions. Furthermore, you will serve as a central point for soliciting and incorporating innovative ideas from internal business unit teams, acting as both a filter and a vital conduit for new product concepts.
Beyond strategy and market analysis, the role demands a keen eye for commercial performance. You will diligently monitor sales performance and profit margins for your assigned products, reporting any significant shifts and integrating these insights into strategic planning. An important function is the identification and pursuit of opportunities to expand the current product offerings, potentially integrating them into larger, more comprehensive system solutions for clients.
Driving Product Development and Collaboration
This Product Manager position is the primary interface between market needs and the development team. You will be instrumental in translating market insights into tangible product requirements, developing detailed documentation to guide the engineering and development processes.
Your responsibilities will also extend to enabling the sales and marketing efforts. This includes creating and maintaining essential sales and marketing collateral, equipping the business unit sales and sales application teams with the tools they need to succeed. You'll also provide invaluable technical consulting, coaching, and training to these teams, ensuring they have a profound understanding of the product portfolio.
Collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with engineering teams to continuously improve critical processes, such as the quality and delivery cycles of power flow models used in system studies. Additionally, you may need to cultivate relationships with external suppliers to support new business growth initiatives. This role is a proactive one, requiring you to champion the TMEIC brand and embody its values, while diligently reporting progress and results to both business unit and corporate management, ensuring timely communication of all product development plans.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this role, TMEIC seeks candidates with a solid educational foundation and relevant practical experience. A Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline, or in a related physical or applied science, is typically required. Equivalent experience gained through work may also be considered.
Candidates should possess at least three years of experience in application engineering or design specifically within inverters and photovoltaic systems. Complementing this, a minimum of three years of experience in product management or technical sales is essential. Demonstrated experience in utility-scale power generation is highly valued, indicating an understanding of large-scale energy project requirements.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are paramount. Excellent writing and presentation abilities are needed to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences. A proven track record of successful cross-functional collaboration is a must, as you will be working with various teams across the organisation. Proficiency in standard office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is expected. The role also requires flexibility and may involve up to 25% domestic and international travel.
For a Product Manager in the renewable energy sector in South Africa, typical career progression might involve moving into senior product management roles, leading larger teams, or transitioning into strategic business development positions. While specific salaries vary widely, roles requiring this level of technical expertise and strategic oversight can command competitive remuneration packages. Major players in the solar industry, engineering consultancies, and large-scale project developers are common employers for individuals with this skillset.
