Job Description

Absa is seeking a seasoned Senior Specialist in Executive Recruitment to spearhead the acquisition of top-tier leadership talent across its operations. This pivotal role demands a strategic thinker capable of crafting and executing end-to-end recruitment solutions that align with the organisation's vision and pan-African ambitions. The incumbent will be instrumental in building and nurturing robust executive leadership pipelines, ensuring the bank is well-equipped for future growth and resilient in critical leadership positions.

The position requires a deep understanding of the complex interplay between organisational strategy, transformation priorities, and the dynamic African talent landscape. Leveraging data, cutting-edge digital tools, and comprehensive market intelligence, the Senior Specialist will proactively identify and attract high-calibre executive candidates. This involves not only filling immediate needs but also strategically shaping leadership pools for sustained success.

The Executive Recruitment Function

At its core, this role is about shaping the future leadership of Absa. The Senior Specialist will be accountable for the entire executive recruitment lifecycle. This encompasses developing sophisticated search strategies, meticulously mapping the external talent market, and proactively building succession-ready pipelines for critical roles. A key aspect of the job involves engaging directly with high-potential individuals, fostering relationships, and positioning Absa as an employer of choice within the executive sphere.

The successful candidate will be adept at applying diverse sourcing methodologies, including direct search, and will be skilled in leveraging digital platforms and AI-enabled tools to enhance outreach and targeting. A crucial element will be strengthening Absa's employer brand at the executive level, ensuring it resonates across Africa and globally. Furthermore, the role necessitates collaboration with external search firms and professional networks when appropriate, to supplement internal capabilities and ensure access to the broadest possible talent pool.

Strategic Partnerships and Data-Driven Insights

A significant part of this position involves acting as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to Group Executives, Business Unit leaders, and Human Capital (HC) Business Partners. This requires a nuanced understanding of their specific leadership needs, market dynamics, and organisational context. The Senior Specialist will provide expert counsel on talent availability, market trends, and candidate positioning, facilitating alignment on role requirements and selection criteria.

Data and analytics will be central to the role's effectiveness. The incumbent will be responsible for tracking, reporting, and analysing executive hiring activities, utilising dashboards and scorecards to ensure transparency and accountability. These insights will be critical for understanding hiring effectiveness, diversity outcomes, and pipeline health, as well as for anticipating future leadership gaps. Predictive analytics will play a role in informing proactive talent strategies.

Moreover, the Senior Specialist will collaborate closely with the Rewards and Performance Centres of Expertise (CoEs) to benchmark executive compensation and develop competitive offer strategies. This ensures that Absa can attract and retain top talent by offering equitable and market-aligned remuneration packages, including long-term incentives.

Candidate Experience and Integration

Beyond the initial acquisition, the role extends to ensuring a seamless onboarding and assimilation experience for executive hires. This involves designing tailored frameworks that accelerate impact and foster cultural integration. Close collaboration with HC Business Partners and leadership teams is essential to guarantee the effective execution of onboarding plans and to monitor the early tenure success of new executives, intervening proactively when necessary.

The Senior Specialist will operate within a broader HC operating model, requiring seamless collaboration with HC Services and Group CoEs. This ensures an integrated and efficient talent acquisition delivery, contributing to the continuous improvement of shared services. The role also demands alignment with broader HC strategies, including transformation, diversity and inclusion, and digitalisation, ensuring executive recruitment practices support these overarching organisational goals. Driving the adoption of digital and future-fit talent acquisition practices, including AI and automation, will be key to enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.

In South Africa, senior executive recruitment roles like this are typically found within large, established corporations, financial institutions, and major consulting firms. The remuneration for such positions is highly competitive and reflects the strategic importance and specialized skillset required, often ranging significantly based on experience, the specific sector, and the scope of responsibility. Career progression could lead into broader leadership roles within Human Capital or strategic talent management functions within the organisation.
